I'm A Little Stressed, Are You?

In all honesty, I'm feeling a little stressed. And my holiday shopping for gifts is done! It seems to be a combination of factors. The first being I have an ill cat at home that needed attending to yesterday and will need to be watched in the coming days. Second, I have quite a few tasks on my list to accomplish and I feel a bit scatter brained about where to start. And finally, I'm not planned as far out as I'd like to be or have been for the last six weeks. I only know what I'm making for dinner the next two nights. And add to that, I need to think about what I need to do to be ready for guests next week.

I do feel good about what I accomplished yesterday even though not as much as I wanted to do.

  • Got prescription for cat (and was able to force it down her throat!)
  • Ran two loads of laundry (resulting from ill cat)
  • Swept kitchen floor
  • Wrapped four more gifts
  • Prepared two more packages for mailing
  • Made myself tea and took a 10 minute break with eyes closed
I expect to feel quite a bit better after today, since one of my goals is to do some planning and list making. The first list is what I plan to do today, which I will share:
  • Help at school plating cookies for the bake sale
  • Take packages to the post office
  • Wash girls sheets
  • Clean our bathroom
  • Vacuum and dust
  • Make meal plan through end of year
  • Make grocery lists
  • Write an email to mom and sister about their visit
  • Make a list of tasks for each day before Christmas
  • Finish reading a book
I think the list above will help me stay focused on what I want to accomplish. I will probably even do most of that in the same order I have listed it above. :) If I can make my list about what I will accomplish each day before Christmas, I think it will all be more manageable. Then my mind can relax, and I can throw away those random lists with tasks and things to remember!

Here is a little tip, if you aren't big into holiday baking it is okay to purchase them already made from the store, or even buy prepackaged dough and frosting. Just last night I made some sugar cookies and added peppermint frosting. Both were purchased from the store, but felt festive without all the work!

What can you do today that will help you relax and be more focused? Are you feeling overwhelmed? Do you need to do everything on your list or can you let some things go?

I'm considering a decluttering challenge of some sort in January. Do you have ideas on what kind of challenge you might be interested in? Should I start a Facebook page for it, so we can cheer each other on?

  1. I like the idea of a decluttering challenge, but won't that be too many pages to manage for you? This, your blog plus the money page and there's maybe more I don't know about? Just a thought.

    1. Thanks Sarah, that is something to consider. I figure it will keep me motivated to have some sort of challenge.

  2. Count me in on any sort of Challenge for January! I love the idea of a FB page because I think its the easiest way to pop in, post pictures, and offers a bit more personality in our anonymity. :) January is when we start to tackle our home, making it open for scrutiny for our homestudy. Which we are thinking may actually be an expedited one (scary, but exciting!)

As for me, I am in SURVIVAL MODE today - and am pretty far behind, but can still manage to get everything done. Went to Old Navy this morning for dress pants for son for tonight's Christmas Concert (he grew!). And I picked up muffin mix for annual baking blitz which will be going on later. I still need to get cards out and help keep the house quiet enough for one more round of finals - though that daughter is off to the Jingle Ball concert tonight.

So yes, I am IN. And I need some Accountability Buddies! :)

  3. Yes! Decluttering challenge! Oh please! That's one of my goals for 2015, is clear out the house more and be more regular in it. I can do it for a few days, and then get tossed off the idea (or think I've "run out" of places to declutter, which is wrong!).

So far as planning out the rest of the time before Christmas? A daily list sounds like a fabulous idea! A master list of sorts, of all the things needed to be done, and then group them into days, to keep things manageable, yet everything in sight!

I hope your kitty is feeling better soon as well!!
