February Check In

I thought I'd report on my February Goals today.

My big goal was to work on my time management. I intended to make a list each night for items to accomplish first thing in the morning before getting on the computer. My initial thought was that I wasn't doing too great on this. I know I was on the computer just this morning before doing much of anything. However, thinking back, I had several days where I did just what I planned the night before and before I was on the computer. While my husband was home for two weeks, we had several days where we got a lot of things done in the morning. I wasn't on the computer those mornings. It just looked a little different than when I would be home on my own. I'm going to keep working on this until it is more of a habit!

We have done a lot around our home to prepare it for sale. Our garage door has been adjusted and lubricated, the roof had a small repair, and our furnace is operating again. I have stained a couple things, added grout and caulk to some areas, and we installed under cabinet lighting  We had a long list and I can say we have accomplished around 70% of it. There is still some painting and caulking to do as the weather warms up. The rest are just DIY type things. It feels good to have made such good progress on this task.

One of my goals was to get some items sold! This goal seems to still be taking a back burner. It hasn't been the priority that I thought it could be. Maybe it will end up being a March goal. I will keep trying to get to it. Even one sale would be exciting at this point!

My goal post also mentioned taking care of our paint stash, which I did take care of. Definitely happy about that! And I told you I had some large cardboard boxes to get rid of. I posted them on Craigslist for a week with no response. In the end I cut them down and put them out by the curb to be recycled.

I have also continued to get rid of items we no longer need in our home. It is a bit surprising the things we hold on to or have that we don't even remember! I found an old concert ticket that I attended with a friend in a book I was ready to part with. I kept the ticket, but let the book go. I do really feel the less we own the better. If you didn't already clue into this, I'm nearly a minimalist compared to compared to most people in the United States. I can say it just feels better that way to me. I sure don't judge those who chose to have more, but do hope they aren't stressed by their things.

Did you make any goals for February in regards to your home or things you want to organize? How are you doing with your goals?

  1. goal #1: finish shredding - that's been forgotten about, I seem to be getting distracted with goal #2, although i am going to work on it better now

goal #2: deal/ finish room - made a good dent in this, still more to do

Yes I'd agree, you are minimalist but that seems to be the best way to be. People here in the UK like to hold on stuff too. I don't know anyone who constantly gets rid of stuff.

    1. Paper shredding is so tedious! It seems you have made great progress this month Sarah.

  2. I'm surprised no one took your boxes. Our FB selling pages are full of: "Help! Moving and need boxes. Where can I get them?"

Another common one: "moving into a new home, need everything, free or cheap as possible"

    1. The boxes were specifically for holding a twin mattress or boxspring, so not really the best use for most moving tasks. I did sell our main moving boxes soon after we moved in for $75! I think I'll do that again.

  3. You have gotten so many things done!!

I'm also surprise that the boxes didn't go. Considering how expensive they can be to buy, seems silly that they weren't scooped up!

    1. Boxes for twin mattresses and box springs aren't in high demand apparently!
