House Maintenance Begins!

My husband and I were pretty busy for at least half of Wednesday working on my list (that I created last week) of things around the house that needed to be maintained or repaired. Many of these things needed to be taken care of regardless of our need to move this summer. We just like to put things off at times. The good news is many of them didn't really take that long!

Here's what we did:

Patched a minor hole in a closet door.
Tightened a screw on a door handle.
Tightened a drain pipe under the kitchen sink that was leaking intermittently.
Reversed the direction of handles on our front storm door (there's a story, but not worth telling).
Cleaned away drywall compound on the concrete floor under our basement stairs.
Dismantled our dishwasher to determine possible fix to loud noise and ordered part online.
Cleaning laundry tub of stains (this is in process...using denture cleaner!)
Replaced the glowing embers in our fireplace (way easier than I thought).
Cleaned out a sink and bath drain in one bathroom.

Prior to Wednesday, I began working on removing paint from one of our basement doors. It is now stripped and can be stained again. It might not be perfect, but it will be better! We need to buy the stain, but I expect that will be completed this week.

On Monday we installed under cabinet lighting under our kitchen cabinets. I'm so loving this! We have Christmas sitting on top of the cabinets and were able to connect them to the same dimmer switch. We paid about $35 for this improvement to our overly dark kitchen that came with this house. At least we will get to enjoy it for a little while before we move.

There's more to do. However, I'm feeling very optimistic that we can get quite a bit of my list done in the next 10 days.

Do you have any house maintenance that you have been putting off? After our progress today,  I would sure recommend a list and a chunk of time to start tackling those items. So many of them didn't take much time at all!

    1. We did get a lot done yesterday. I think my husband may be more motivated than I am!

  2. The under cabinet lights only cost 35$?! I never thought it was that inexpensive! I've been putting off cleaning the carpets again. It takes the whole day, at least three full empties of the cleaner-container-reservoir. And it makes the house smell like a combination of what gets pulled up and orange - not the best smell ever!

    1. Yes, we bought our light set at Home Depot. I'm sure there are others that are more expensive. Good luck with your carpet cleaning!
