Out with the Old, In with the New

We bought some new towels this week in preparation for getting our house ready for sale. And we needed them, too! The white ones in the picture below are some of the new ones. I love the texture of the lines on them. Even though they are white, they just add something to the room!

The pile of towels on the left have been used as rags. The pile in the middle are the old towels we are ready to get rid of. It's the bigger pile!

As you can see, some of the towels had discolorations. We have lived with it since it doesn't affect the ability to soak up water. I did save a few in this color that didn't have stains. They could come in handy when we have guests or if laundry doesn't get done on time.

I did keep some of the stained towels to be used as rags. My husband likes to clean with old towels. He said they were getting pretty ratty, so I decided to swap out those old rags with the old towels to be designated as rags. I did really write on them with a permanent marker designating them as rags, since we are keeping some of the same color to be used as bath towels. Now when I do laundry, I will know which towel is which!

The rags/towels my husband uses and prefers are on the top shelf of our laundry cabinet. There are just a few. I didn't add any more than we had before. I made sure to swap out one for one, so I didn't suddenly have a cupboard full of towels!

I personally prefer microfiber clothes for my cleaning. My stash is shown below!

And finally these are the towels and rags that are leaving our home. I literally tossed that top one in the trash. It has been around for nearly 18 years. It is time to go!! The rest are probably being donated to Goodwill or possibly a Humane Society if they are in need at this time.

When you get something new that is replacing something old, do you make sure to the old leaves your home? If not, what are you doing with the old? Have you bought something new to replace something else recently?

  1. By the time I purchase something that needs replacing, that means it's been time for the item that needs replacing to go for a while! So, luckily for me, that means it does leave the house!

    1. That is a good thing Jessica that your new items leave so quickly after a new purchase!

  2. I've been trying to do one in, one out since before xmas. Your new towels are lovely. Your post reminds me that I need to organise our linen/towel cupboard. And also throw out the other old baby towels we have.
