Wednesday 15 - April 8, 2015

The Wednesday 15!

I'm challenging you to find 15 items you can remove from your home, preferably not just basic household trash, but if you must it can count too. Is there a penalty for not meeting the goal? Of course not. One thing is better than none, right? Is there a reward for meeting the goal. Yes, the joy of finding more space in your home for things you love. Notice how you feel letting these items go that you just don't need. Often it is a feeling of satisfaction and peace.

Even I'm amazed sometimes that I can come up with 15 items to let go of! I spent about 20 minutes looking around for things last night. I did have to open drawers and bins to find most of these. Since the house in good order for showings, most things are hidden anyway. I wanted to make quick decisions to keep it simple. In the end all the items I chose to let go of were easy decisions. These are things I won't use and don't want to use again.

From left to right, clockwise:

  • racks to put on a bike (2)
  • potpourri (not the vase)
  • book
  • patterns and instructions (2)
  • fabric pieces
  • plastic tub
  • plastic bags (2)
  • candle tray
  • hotel shampoo
  • key rings (2)
  • screw (very small probably from my computer)
  • extra tool for carpet cleaner
  • spackling
  • pipe cleaners
I probably could have convinced myself to keep several of these items, but the truth is we aren't and won't use them. It's time to move those kinds of things on. Others it was just time to let go of for various reasons. The plastic bags I really just found in the process of getting rid of fabric. I wouldn't normally count them.

How much time did you spend finding your 15 items this week? Did you find 15 items, more or less?

  1. Isn't it amazing the things that find their way into our homes? If I didn't purge regularly I shudder to think what my house would look like!

  2. I'm not moving but our home is going through a mini transformation as we assign an area each week for change-out from winter and warm, jewel colors to spring/summer pastels and summer apparel. As soon as I started Monday AM laundry, I removed all the winter accessories from entry closet. Gloves, hats, scarves, went from a quick toss on 'air' in the dryer to the storage bin and the basket was refilled with summer scarves, lids, baseball hats, visors and toppers, umbrellas and stadium seats.

The down coats, parkas & jackets had been cleaned before we left for Asia;. they are back in their wardrobe case in the garage. I brought out the two rain jackets to add to the two silk jackets we used on our travels. The two hoodies we use all winter are stayd on the laundry room door likely to be used for gardening or garage work. There are several jackets that relate to specific activities and might need to be donated for others to enjoy.

I prefer to clean, refill containers and tidy the laundry room while the 2nd load is washing, 1st load hung or dryer. I used the timer today to see how much time I devoted to the process...8 minutes and I wasn't hurrying.

I'd washed 2 of the four throws we use in winter before we left to use as decor on bedroom chairs. Washed the last two and have folded all 4 and stored in the linen cabinet. I added a summer weight throw on the white chai in Lv
Rmr to add some color and texture.
