I have asked my immediate family members to start doing their own thinking on what they would like for Christmas. The results are varied. One daughter sent me a great list very quickly, and has even added to it! The other daughter has only one item currently. And my husband has had zero requests thus far. I also need to think about what I might want!
In addition to asking for ideas, I also brainstorm gift ideas based on what I know about each person. Of course, I usually don't buy all the items on my brainstorm list, but it gives me a place to start researching price and availability.
My brainstorm list is just a piece of notebook paper. Once I have a firm gift plan, I add the item to the gift planner page in my Christmas planner, where I can check it off once purchased.
I can't show my final brainstorm list, but I did fill it in with our intended gift recipients and some ideas for each person. It's a start, and another place I can add to in the coming weeks. This task took me just ten minutes! A mini mission complete!!
I will say it again, early planning makes for a less stressful holiday season. If you haven't tried early planning before, I highly recommend it. Ask yourself, what do you have to lose by starting just a little early?
