The Christmas Cleanout continues in the kitchen! I still have great energy to dig in and declutter. Trust me, when the energy strikes take advantage of it, even if for just a few minutes!
Does everyone else have a cabinet just for food storage containers?
I have more than I actually use. What do I really need and want to keep?
Dawn from Minimal Mom on YouTube recently mentioned that keeping lids on the containers helps you not lose the lids. This also forces us to have fewer containers because they will take up more space this way. She let go of the very small containers and uses only medium and large containers. I'm not ready to let go of all my small containers, but I'm ready for more plastic to go.
Here is what I let go of:
- Large round container with lid
- 2 Large rectangle containers with lids
- 7 Small containers with lids
- 2 lids broken without bowls
- 8x8 cake pan
Oh look...more empty space!! There are some containers being used or in the dishwasher, but there will still be empty space. I think in time I may be able to let go of more of the plastic ones. I'm waiting to see if I end up using them while our daughter is home for Christmas break. I didn't make cookies this year, so I had less need for the large rectangle containers.
I really like my glass pyrex bowls with lids. The bowls have held up great, but the lids are starting to chip off or split a bit. I heard Walmart.com had replacements, so after this decluttering session I went online and bought 3 - 4 cup size and 6 - 1 cup size for about $18. This will extend the life of the glass containers. They do carry lids for other sizes, including the 2 cup. I am just not in need of other sizes.
How do your store your food storage containers? Have you found a method that works well for you?
